This Mural is established on a still from Charlie Chaplin’s 1918 black-and-white film, ”A Dog’s Life.”

In the early 1900s, Chaplin was a frequent visitor to an overlooked Windsor Hotel. He looked beyond the imperfections that people saw because he felt the hotel had a vast heritage and legacy attached to it.

In 1914 While staying at Windsor hotel, Chaplin wrote a letter to his brother expressing his intention of pursuing a career in Hollywood. This turned out to be a significant and notable period of his life.

The hotel management installed lights on the roof as a spotlight for where the mural was painted. The mural looked like a stage with red curtains, and black and white images of Chaplin and his co-actors.

I have no idea when this mural was painted but I know it still shines bright at night.

This mural provides a strong cultural dimension to the space and changed the negative image of a poorly considered urban space. It restored the pride of the space and area, it provided the space with a new sense of belonging, and identity was found.
