Assiniboia Downs - Racing Through time

This mural features a group of jockeys and their horses rounding a bend at the Assiniboia Downs racetrack.

It spurred my vision to see the competition looked so unified, a public art piece that extends and creates a bridge between cultures.

What stood out about this mural, for me, is the artists play on the idea of photofinishing. The artist used red, green and blue as the base colours of the three main horses, applying extra layers of color on top to make the art look more natural.

This mural transforms the wall into an enormous canvas upon which established indigenous artists, share their stories with the world.

This mural shares an unavoidable message of positivity and optimism.
